If you are a fan of Kikuyu secular music you must have come across Wanyaguthii junior at some point, who is a popular Kikuyu benga musician. He is the son to the late popular Kikuyu musician Wanyaguthii, who died some years ago. For more than five months he has been in prison and Kenyans were wondering what happened to him.
Some hours ago after getting out of prison he was interviewed by Jeff Kuria and he talked about the matter. He said that his real name is John Maina and he is the last born in a family of Wanyaguthii, which has three children. He added that his father died in the year 2012 when he was a big man and he was in Nairobi. His father was a very good man and his mother had died when he was very young.
They enjoyed their father’s music career and he inspired them very much. They were raised by their grandmother and his father was always there for them until he died in the year 2012. After school he went to Nairobi to continue with his education, but unfortunately it was unsuccessful and he started hustling. He made it clear that his father had been sick for sometime until in 2012 when he got very sick and he took him home where he died.
After his father died, he started thinking about getting into the music industry to continue with his father’s legacy. So far he has released four albums and he is happy with his progress in music. Talking about going to prison, he said that was arrested and stayed in jail for five years. It all started after he met an Indian foreigner who wanted them to do business together. They became good friends and they started a business together where the man invested 450,000.
The business was very successful and his juniors decided to play foul. They wanted to eliminate him and it was said that he had stolen 560,000 from the business. The Indian man was very angry and he didn’t want to hear anything from him. He denied the claims in court and he was given a cash bail of 300,000 which he didn’t have. Later the company failed and the Indian man withdrew the case after five months. Watch the full video below and share your views with us.
