ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna publicly asked for forgiveness from former President Uhuru Kenyatta during the burial of former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo, an event Uhuru attended.
Speaking before mourners, Sifuna said he was apologising on behalf of ODM for insults that had been directed at the former Head of State by some party members.
Sifuna remarks were meant to lower political temperatures and show respect, especially at a time of mourning.
His apology comes amid claims by a section of ODM members that Uhuru Kenyatta has been secretly funding some party officials to create divisions and weaken ODM from within.
These accusations have fueled internal tension and sharp exchanges in recent weeks with Uhuru allies defending Uhuru while section of ODM insisting Uhuru is part of the bigger problem within ODM.
