Former Deputy President of Kenya Rigathi Gachagua attended a memorial service for the mother of Richard Onyonka in Kisii, accompanied by several opposition leaders who said they are already strategizing for the 2027 General Elections.
During the event, Senator Onyonka disclosed that his late mother had urged him to apologize to Rigathi Gachagua for supporting the impeachment process that led to his removal from office.
The senator admitted that he was influenced by party directives and allegations of bribery within Parliament when lawmakers were voting on the motion.
Onyonka expressed regret over his decision, saying he now believes Gachagua was unfairly targeted through a political scheme aimed at silencing him.
He added that after joining the opposition, he came to realize that Gachagua is a good leader, although he felt he had discovered this too late. He invited members of the public to share their views on the matter.
