John Ndirangu from Nyeri shares his story explaining how he ended up in jail despite being innocent.
Ndirangu was a bouncer at a certain club before his arrest and he had been working as one for about 7years.
However, one day things just spiralled out of control after a regular customer who was a lady stayed in the club till closing hours.
She seemed so stressed and when Ndirangu requested her to leave since it was closing time, she begged him to talk to his female colleagues to accommodate her for the night.
Out of goodwill, he did so but they all turned his request down forcing him to accommodate her for the night out of pity.
Nevertheless, they agreed that she was going to sleep on the couch and leave the next morning which happened.
He later left for work but was astonished to find the lady waiting for him that evening citing that her baby daddy had thrown her out leaving her homeless.
Ndirangu agreed to accommodate her for a few more nights before she dealt with her situation but little did he know that the worst awaited him.
2 days later, the lady’s parents and police raided his place and he was arrested, detained and later taken to court.
According to the lady’s parents, she was 16years and had fled from home neglecting her infant baby.
It is with those considerations that Ndirangu was arrested and charged for marrying a minor, whom he had just accommodated out of goodwill.
He was sentenced to a 10-year imprisonment despite the lady defending him since he had done nothing wrong but only helped her when she needed it.
Now he is still serving the sentence in Nyeri Maximum Prison holding onto hope that he will eventually regain his freedom.
He urges people to be careful despite having good intentions to avoid getting into unnecessary trouble.
