In a new development in the murder case of activist Richard Otieno, also known as Molo President, the Kenyan Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has made three more arrests.
This comes after a forensic investigation linked the suspects to the crime.
Richard Otieno was killed on January 18, 2025, in the town of Elburgon, Nakuru County. His death caused a lot of anger and led to protests in the region.
On January 19, 2025, residents of Elburgon marched through the streets with his body to demand justice for the activist.
Otieno was known for his activism and work to help the people of Molo. His murder shocked the community and sparked widespread outrage.
According to the DCI, two of the suspects in the case fled to Tanzania after the crime. They went to a place called Majahida in the Bariadi District, where they tried to hide.
However, Tanzanian police helped the Kenyan authorities track them down and return them to Kenya on February 21. Once they arrived in Kenya, the suspects were re-arrested and taken into custody.
The third suspect was arrested in Kenya after forensic evidence showed he was involved in the crime.
The DCI says that the suspects were identified after a thorough analysis of the crime scene. The police are still searching for several other people who are believed to be connected to the murder.
The investigation began after the DCI received information about the killing, and a team of detectives was formed to find the suspects.
The team included officers from the Homicide Investigations Bureau and the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau. The police worked hard to follow leads and use forensic evidence to track down the killers.
The suspects are expected to appear in court on February 24, 2025, for custodial orders. This marks the second round of arrests in the case, as five other people were arrested earlier in February.
According to the DCI, three of the previous arrests were the main suspects in the murder, while two others were bodaboda riders who helped transport them to and from the crime scene.
The investigation is ongoing, and more arrests are expected as the authorities continue to search for all those involved in the crime.
The people of Elburgon and the family of Richard Otieno are hoping that justice will be served, and the killers will be held accountable for their actions.
