Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi, he has reacted after the ODM party leader Honourable Raila Amollo Odinga stated that he was not happy when the Adani deal didn’t go through.

COURTESY of his Official X Handle, Ahmednasir Abdullahi supported Raila Odinga’s Remarks by saying that Kenya needs transparent deal like that of Adani for socioeconomic progress and development in the Country.

Former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga expressed disappointment over the cancellation of the Adani Group’s deal to upgrade Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), as stated during the 3rd National Executive Retreat on June 20, 2025.

He argued that the deal, part of a public-private partnership (PPP), was crucial for modernizing Kenya’s infrastructure and maintaining its position as East Africa’s aviation hub, warning that delays could allow competitors like Ethiopia and Rwanda to surpass Kenya.

Odinga criticized the cancellation as politically motivated, noting the project’s history of repeated setbacks since 2012.

The deal, valued at nearly $2 billion, involved a 30-year lease for Adani to expand JKIA, but was terminated by President William Ruto in November 2024 due to corruption allegations against Adani Group’s founder, Gautam Adani, in the United States.

Odinga has consistently defended Adani’s credibility, citing their successful projects in India, and maintained that PPPs are essential for Kenya’s development given economic constraints.

However, his support has drawn criticism from some Kenyans and opposition figures, who questioned the deal’s transparency and accused it of serving vested interests.
