Joyce Naserian, a prisoner at Langata Women’s prisons has narrated how she ended up in jail for the second time in 3 years.

Speaking in an interview with Inooro TV Njeraini Citu show host Simon Kibe, Joyce revealed that the first time she was arrested and jailed was in 2020. At the time, she was in a toxic relationship and constantly fought with the father of her child.

They were both arrested after fighting in public but since the man was from a well up family, he paid his fine after one day. Joyce on the other hand spent a whole year in prison.

After getting back her freedom, she quit alcohol and started working at a beauty shop in Nairobi CBD. She would be paid by commission and thus had to find ways to attract customers. She used to stand outside the shop and shout out the services offered to attract passersbys.

Things went on well for sometime until early this year when she was arrested by Kanjo for causing noise. The police asked her to pay 5,000 Kenyan shillings to secure her release from the police station. She did not have the money and none of her family members was willing to assist.

At the court, she was ordered to pay a cash bail of 10,000 Kenyan shillings or be jailed for 3 months. She is set to complete her sentence in April 2023.

She said jail life is hard since she’s wasting a lot of time that could have been used to work and take care of her child. Once out of prison, she will try her best to avoid making mistakes that could make her get arrested again.
