A Kenyan woman working in Dubai has inspired many after sharing how she is using her savings from the Gulf to build rental houses in Thika, with her father overseeing the project while she remains abroad.
Wacuka Waigi, who documents her journey on TikTok, has been posting regular updates showing the progress of the construction. Her videos, shared throughout July 2026, capture different stages of the project, from breaking ground in May to the ongoing plumbing work.
The updates have attracted thousands of views, likes and comments from Kenyans, especially those living in the diaspora who dream of investing back home.
Wacuka said one of the proudest moments of her life was visiting the site during a vacation and watching construction begin.
“I have never been so proud of myself just sitting there and watching people work to make my dreams come true,” she wrote.
She admitted that she did not have enough money to complete the project when she started it but decided not to delay her plans.
“The more they tell you to wait, the further the starting date gets pushed, the further your dreams get pushed,” she said.
Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Wacuka explained that she entrusted her father with managing the entire project. From purchasing materials to supervising workers, he has handled everything while she continues working in Dubai and sending money home.
She described the rental houses as her long-term investment and hopes they will eventually allow her to leave the Gulf and settle back in Kenya.
“And finally the exit plan from the Gulf is turning into reality slowly but surely,” she wrote.
Her story has resonated with many Kenyans who work abroad and hope to build a future at home. It also highlights the importance of trust between family members when managing investments from a distance.
