Ajok

An African househelp working in the Middle East has drawn global attention after reenacting the alleged killing of her employer during official investigations.

The suspect, Vicky Ajok from Uganda, is accused of killing Syrian actress Huuda Shaarawi, a case now under review by the Ministry of Justice.Authorities took Ajok back to the crime scene to explain how the incident allegedly happened.

In a video shared by the justice ministry, she claimed the events followed months of mistreatment.

She told investigators that she was often denied food, beaten, and not paid her wages.

She said that on the night of the incident, her employer denied her food and told her she had poisoned her, pushing her into panic and rage.

In her account to officers, Ajok said that only the two of them were in the house that night. She stated that her employer told her she had poisoned her and that she responded by saying they would go together.

She explained that she first thought she was suffering from malaria before realising she had been poisoned.

She told investigators that at around 3am she went to the kitchen, picked an object, and returned to carry out the attack.

She added that after the incident she attempted to take her own life but did not die.She added that she fled the scene and later met people she misled about her situation.

Ajok said her employer had promised to take her to hospital but instead called police who arrested her.

She insisted that she was telling the truth and said that if she died, she wanted it to be after admitting that she was responsible for the killing because her employer had told her she was poisoned.

She added that their problems began in November after her wages were not paid.

Investigations are ongoing as authorities review her claims and the wider issue of domestic worker welfare abroad.
