Ahead of Kenya’s 62nd Madaraka Day celebrations on June 1, 2025, motorists and boda boda riders in Homa Bay have been issued strict travel and parking regulations to ensure order and security during the national festivities. The commemorations will be held at Raila Odinga Stadium, with an estimated 15,000 guests expected, including dignitaries, government officials, and citizens from across the country.
Regional Commissioner for Nyanza, Flora Mworoa, announced the measures on Saturday, citing the need for coordinated traffic management to facilitate smooth access and heightened security.
“With such a large number of attendees, especially high-profile guests, it is crucial to ensure all transportation logistics are properly streamlined,” Mworoa stated.
To accommodate the influx of visitors, authorities have designated specific parking zones and outlined alternative routes for both private and commercial vehicles. Boda boda riders will face additional restrictions, with certain areas declared off-limits during the event.
Law enforcement officers will be stationed throughout the town and along major access roads to guide traffic and enforce compliance.
Mworoa urged all residents, motorists, and boda boda operators to familiarize themselves with the new directives and cooperate fully with law enforcement to avoid disruptions.
She emphasized that these measures are temporary but necessary to ensure the safety and success of the national celebration.
Madaraka Day marks the day Kenya attained internal self-rule in 1963, and this year’s event in Homa Bay is expected to draw significant national attention. Authorities are encouraging early travel planning and patience as the town prepares to host one of its most significant public events in recent history.
