The High Court has stopped the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) from taking disciplinary action against nominated senator Gloria Orwoba. This decision is temporary while the court looks deeper into the case.

Senator Orwoba went to court to ask for help, saying the party was trying to remove her unfairly. She believes the action against her is political and not based on the rules. The UDA started the disciplinary process after Orwoba attended the homecoming event of former Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.

The party said she went against its policies by being part of an event linked to leaders from the opposition. However, Orwoba argues that attending the event does not mean she supports a different political side. She says she was there in her personal capacity and did not speak against UDA or its leadership.

In her court documents, Orwoba asked the judge to stop the disciplinary process quickly, as it could lead to her being removed from the Senate and losing her party membership. She also said that the process was being rushed and that she was not given enough time to defend herself properly.

The High Court agreed to hear her case and has stopped UDA from continuing with the disciplinary process until a final decision is made. This gives Orwoba time to explain her side and for the court to decide if UDA’s actions are legal and fair.

The case will be heard in full at a later date. For now, Senator Orwoba remains a member of the UDA and continues to serve in the Senate. The outcome of the case could affect how political parties deal with members who attend events linked to rival leaders.
