Samidoh and Ess

The High Court has granted popular Mugithi artist and police officer Samuel Muchoki, better known as Samidoh, an anticipatory bail of Ksh200,000, shielding him from arrest or detention over allegations of deserting his duties in the National Police Service.

The decision came after reports surfaced accusing Samidoh of neglecting his official responsibilities as a police officer, sparking speculation and public interest. The singer, who has built a strong fan base through his music career, filed for anticipatory bail fearing imminent arrest by his superiors in the police service.

Justice Lawrence Mugambi ruled in favour of the application, noting that every citizen has the right to protection from arbitrary arrest, particularly when there are reasonable grounds to believe that such an arrest may occur unlawfully or in bad faith. The court emphasized that granting anticipatory bail does not mean the artist is free from investigation, but rather ensures his right to fair legal procedures is upheld.

Samidoh, who is currently attached to the Administration Police, has been juggling his music career with his law enforcement duties, a combination that has drawn both admiration and criticism from various quarters. Questions have previously been raised regarding how he balances his responsibilities, especially given his high-profile performances both locally and abroad.

The artist’s legal team argued that there was no formal communication from the National Police Service regarding disciplinary measures or charges against him, thus making any possible arrest unjustified at this point.

This ruling provides Samidoh with temporary relief, allowing him to continue his musical engagements while remaining available for any further investigations. The case is expected to set a precedent for other public officers with dual careers in entertainment or business.
