The Kenya Meteorological Service Authority has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall in several parts of the country from Saturday October 31 to November 4. The rains are expected to persist across the Coast and Central regions. Northern Kenya and Western are also on the list alongside the Rift Valley and Lake Victoria Basin.

Nairobi will receive moderate afternoon showers on Saturday and Sunday. More rain is forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday next week.

At the Coast, Mombasa and Lamu will get rains on Saturday and Wednesday. Kwale and Kilifi are expected to experience showers on four of the five days.

In Central Kenya, Nyeri will record moderate showers on Saturday and Tuesday. Murang’a is set for rain on Saturday and Wednesday while Kiambu will see showers on Saturday afternoon and again on Sunday.

Parts of Western Kenya and the Rift Valley will be hit by afternoon showers accompanied by thunderstorms. Bomet and Kericho are among them together with Kakamega and Kisii. The pattern is expected on all five days.

Narok and Nakuru will face similar conditions. So will Laikipia and Samburu along with Kisumu and Homa Bay.

Makueni and Machakos will receive moderate showers on Saturday. More rain will follow on Sunday and again on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The forecast comes hours after overnight downpours caused flash floods and traffic jams in Nairobi. Neighbouring Kiambu and Kajiado were also affected along with Machakos.

Flooded roads and waterlogged drainages have disrupted movement to and from the city centre. Waiyaki Way and Thika Road are among the affected routes. Kiambu Road and Mombasa Road have also been hit as concerns over El NiƱo continue to grow.
