A 25-year-old man from Nairobi has opened up about the pain of losing both his relationship and financial stability after being kicked out by his girlfriend following seven years together.
Tony Ngare said he met the woman shortly after finishing high school in Rongo, and the two later joined different universities in Nairobi.
Ngare pursued Journalism at the University of Nairobi, while his girlfriend studied Statistics at Zetech University.
According to Ngare, their relationship grew stronger during campus life, and they hoped to eventually settle down together as husband and wife.
However, things took a different turn when financial difficulties forced him to defer his studies while in his third year at university. To survive, he turned to online academic writing, which initially helped him earn a stable income.
Ngare explained that during that period, he fully supported their relationship financially and often sacrificed his own needs to provide for his partner. After dating for four years, the two decided to move in together.
Their lives later changed when artificial intelligence began affecting online writing jobs, reducing the amount of work available. Ngare said his income dropped significantly, making it difficult for him to continue providing.
The young man decided to return to his rural home for several months as he tried to rebuild his finances. During that time, his girlfriend secured employment and later invited him to move in with her in Kiserian, Kajiado County.
Ngare revealed that while living together, he handled household chores as he continued searching for work. Despite his efforts, he struggled to secure another source of income.
He said disagreements soon began emerging in the relationship, turning their once peaceful home into a toxic environment.
According to him, his girlfriend eventually told him she no longer loved him because he was unable to provide financially and asked him to leave her house.
Now staying with a cousin, Ngare says he is focused on rebuilding his life and finding stable employment again.
