The Kikuyu gospel music fraternity is in mourning following the death of legendary gospel artist Dancos Laurend Githua.

The sad news was announced a few minutes ago by popular Kikuyu gospel artist and philanthropist Karangu Muraya through his official Facebook page. In his emotional post, Karangu wrote, “The legend has rested… May Jehovah comfort his family… Rest in peace mzee.” He accompanied the announcement with photos showing him posing with the late veteran singer, a man known for his humility and powerful ministry through music.

Dancos Laurend Githua was a household name in Central Kenya and beyond, celebrated for his timeless and spiritually uplifting songs. He was popularly known for classics such as Gikuu Kia Elisha, Kioneki Mbere Ya Kabuuri, JEHOVAH ETANIRE NA MUGAMBO, and IKARAGAI MUKENETE, among many other soul-touching hits. His music, which often reflected on life, death, and the hope found in God, ministered to generations and remains a blessing to many to date. Even in his old age, he remained a respected father figure in the gospel industry.

Following Karangu’s announcement, fans and fellow artists have flooded the comment section with messages of condolence. Many have expressed shock and sorrow, with some noting the irony that the legendary singer who sang so much about death has now rested himself. Fans described him as a legend whose songs will continue to live on. Messages like “Fare thee well,” “Rest well legend,” and “May his soul rest in peace” have dominated the tributes, as Kenyans remember a man whose voice carried the gospel with unmatched grace and truth.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.
