IEBC Commissioner Abdi Guliye yesterday revealed that IEBC Vice Chair Juliana Cherera and her team of other three met secretly. Guliye noted that at some point, Cherera abandoned her official office and moved to a new place where she planned. He says they noted that something was not right in the commission when Cherera, Wanderi, Nyang’aya and Masit were always together.
Abdi told the Muchelule led tribunal that Cherera and her co-accused used to meet at Anniversary Towers. He has noted that they did not bother to ask Cherera and her team what they were upto but they knew that something fishy was being planned.
According to Guliye, at that time the commission was already divided as Cherera, Masit, Wanderi and Nyang’aya worked together. Chebukati, Marjan, Guliye and Molu also worked together.
Guliye told Kenyans that problems started emerging on the last day of verification of results. Cherera and team’s secret was now known; the four wanted results to be moderated to favour Raila.
It is that issue that divided the electoral commission. Guliye says there were some individuals who were helping Cherera and her team. He has wondered how it was made possible for Cherera to give a press conference within a very short time with journalists present.
