Incumbent Bungoma County governor Wycliffe Wangamati has conceded defeat to senate speaker Ken Lusaka paving way for a new yet familiar beginning for the county where Lusaka who was the pioneer governor elected in 2013, will be back to office for a last term.

In his emotion triggering concession speech, Wangamati acknowledged his respect for the decision of the people to elect Lusaka saying he has nothing else but to respect.

“The people of Bungoma have spoken and we respect that decision. This is therefore to congratulate Hon Kenneth Lusaka on his election as the Governor of Bungoma.” Read part of Wangamati’s concession speech.

The outgoing governor who was elected on a Ford Kenya party ticket but later decamped to Azimio linked DAP-K party also congratulated Bungoma County residents and associates for believing in him and handing him the honour and privilege to serve them for the last 5 years.

“I want to thank every citizen of Bungoma who thought and believed in my vision for Bungoma, and all those who supported my campaigns for re-election and voted for me.” He said.

The political dynamics of Bungoma county is also interesting given that Wangamati was the force behind Lusaka’s downfall in the 2017 general elections. The tables have now turned and Lusaka has made a grand comeback ending Wangamati’s 5 years stint at the helm of the County.
