Lenny, popularly known as the driver of George Ruto, has opened up about his career journey, revealing how he moved from driving a matatu to coordinating a fleet of vehicles and taking up management responsibilities within the 98 Sacco.
Speaking during an interview on the Over 1M Podcast, Lenny recounted how his professional relationship with George began through the sale of a matatu known as Matrix. His story was featured in a report published by TUKO.co.ke on Saturday, October 17, 2026.
According to Lenny, he was driving the Matrix matatu when his former employer decided to sell the vehicle. George’s team subsequently purchased it but chose to retain Lenny as the driver rather than replace him.
Lenny explained that the decision was based on the trust he had earned. He recalled that after purchasing the vehicle, the new owner instructed that the driver should not be changed because he had no problem with him.
That initial opportunity eventually opened the door to greater responsibilities. Lenny revealed that he no longer works exclusively as a driver, having progressed to coordinating vehicles operating under George’s business interests.
During the interview, he disclosed that he oversees eight vehicles under the new Sacco arrangement and has taken on a broader role involving the coordination of routes and matatus operating under 98 Sacco.
However, Lenny clarified that other managers also handle different routes, while his role involves overseeing the wider coordination of the operation.
His account highlights how a job that began with driving a single matatu developed into a position involving fleet coordination and Sacco management responsibilities. According to his account, trust and the opportunity that followed the sale of the Matrix matatu played an important role in his career progression.
