Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has broken his silence following the death of Father John Maina Ndegwa, who was killed just days after hosting him at his church.
In a statement shared on social media on Wednesday, Gachagua mourned the priest, describing him as a courageous and principled man of God.
“The passing of Fr. John Maina Ndegwa is utterly painful. Fr. John was a great soul and a true shepherd of the Lord’s flock. He lived in truth and spoke the truth without fear or favour, just as Christ would have done,” Gachagua wrote.
The former Deputy President described the late cleric as a personal friend and counsellor of many years, with whom he met several times to discuss various national issues.
Gachagua urged security agencies to expedite investigations and bring those responsible to justice.
“I call upon the security agencies to speed up the investigation and bring the culprits of this heinous act to book,” he added.
According to preliminary investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Fr. John was abducted and murdered by individuals who allegedly sought a share of the money Gachagua had donated during the church event.
