Veteran Kenyan broadcaster Fred Obachi Machoka delighted fans after introducing his grandson, Ethan, during his 50th anniversary celebrations at Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi.
The celebrated media personality marked five decades in broadcasting on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at a star studded event attended by thousands of fans, celebrities and other prominent personalities.
A video captured during the celebrations showed Machoka taking to the stage alongside members of his family. As he addressed the cheering crowd, he introduced several of his relatives before drawing attention to his grandson and daughter, Angel.
“This is my grandson, Ethan. This is my lovely daughter Angel,” Machoka said as he presented them to the audience.
The family moment attracted attention, with Ethan becoming one of the highlights of the clip shared online. The occasion offered fans a glimpse into the broadcaster’s family life as he celebrated a major milestone in his professional career.
Machoka also used the opportunity to recognise his wife, Sophie, whom he affectionately referred to by several family names, including Mama Santos, Mama Angel, Mama Nari and Mama Victor.
In his heartfelt tribute, the veteran broadcaster acknowledged the important role she had played in his life, saying she had taken care of him for 47 years.
His remarks drew a warm response from the audience, adding an emotional touch to the celebrations, which had brought together people from different sections of Kenya’s entertainment and media industries.
The Machoka@50 Grand Concert also featured performances from renowned rhumba musicians, including Congolese stars Koffi Olomide and Mbilia Bel, Cameroonian singer Sam Fan Thomas, and Kenyan bands Les Wanyika and Them Mushrooms.
Machoka is widely recognised for his contribution to popularising rhumba music in Kenya through his long running Roga Roga programme on Radio Citizen.
The anniversary celebration marked an important chapter in his broadcasting journey, with the veteran presenter sharing the milestone not only with fans but also with the family members who have been part of his personal life over the years.
