Four bodies have been exhumed from shallow graves in a gully near Mwingi Town, Mwingi Central OCPD Antony Maina has confirmed.

According to Maina, all the bodies are male. They were found buried without clothes, with their hands and legs folded.

The exhumation exercise was led by Kitui County Criminal Investigations Officer Cecilia Mugambi on Tuesday, June 9, a day after the shallow graves were discovered.

Investigations into the incident have commenced, with detectives seeking to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths and identities of the victims.

Residents have been urged to report any missing relatives who may help in the identification process, with security officers appealing to members of the public to cooperate with investigators by providing any information that could assist in the probe.

Authorities have indicated that further searches will be conducted along the gully to determine whether there are additional bodies in the area.

The bodies have been moved to Mwingi Level 4 Hospital Mortuary.
