Former Migori County Governor Zachary Okoth Obado is scheduled to be sentenced this coming Wednesday, September 16, 2026. He was found guilty of aiding and abetting the gruesome September 2018 murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno and her unborn child.
The terrifying ordeal began on September 3, 2018, when Sharon and journalist Barrack Oduor were abducted in Rongo. Oduor managed to fight off an attacker in the speeding car, jumping out into nearby bushes to escape with his life.
Tragically, 26-year-old Sharon remained trapped with the killers. She was driven to a thicket near Kodera Forest in Homa Bay County, where she was brutally assaulted and stabbed seven times. The horrific attack killed her and her 28-week-old unborn baby.
Locals and police discovered her mutilated body the following day, leaving the country in deep shock and grief. A swift trail by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) linked the logistics directly to Obado, leading to his arrest alongside key aides. Now, years after the heartbreaking tragedy, Sharon’s family and Kenyans across the nation finally await judicial closure.
