The new National Defence University-Kenya Vice Chancellor Lt Gen David Tarus has officially taken over office from his predecessor, Lt Gen Jimson Mutai in a colorful handover ceremony at the institution at Lanet, Nakuru County.

Lt Gen Tarus was appointed as the fourth NDU-K Vice Chancellor in the military changes made by President William Ruto almost a fortnight ago.

Prior to his appointment as the new head of the country’s only military institution, Lt Gen Tarus served as the Kenya Army commander, the position he held for slightly over one year since succeeding Lt Gen ( Rtd ) Peter Njiru in March 2024.

Lt Gen Tarus previously served as the deputy Kenya Army commander.

Boasting 37 years of military experience, Lt Gen Tarus once commanded Army’s Artillery Brigade.

On the other hand, Lt Gen Mutai served as NDU-K Vice Chancellor for slightly over one year since March 2024. He succeeded Major General Mohamed Said Farah who was redeployed.

The powerful naval officer had previously served as the Kenya Navy commander.
