Wanjiru Mechanic

A grieving family in Nakuru is pleading with the government to speed up investigations and deliver justice for their 20-year-old daughter, Wanjiru Ng’ang’a, who was brutally murdered under unclear circumstances.

The young mechanic’s lifeless body was discovered in a thicket in Subukia Constituency, leaving her family and community in shock.

Wanjiru, a mechanic in Kiborojo, was on her way home on the evening of April 17 when she was attacked by unknown assailants.

According to her mother, Wanjiru had left home at 8 a.m. that day, unaware it would be her last. After work, she stopped by a local shop to buy a few items before heading home. Heavy rain forced her to seek shelter, but growing impatient, she decided to take a less-frequented route when her usual path was flooded. Witnesses reported seeing her running in the rain with a shopping bag.

When she failed to return home, her mother grew anxious and mobilized neighbors to search for her. After hours of fruitless efforts, she reported her daughter missing at Kiboronjo Police Station.

The following morning, the devastated mother retraced Wanjiru’s steps and her heartbreak deepened when she spotted Wanjiru’s turban near a ditch moments before discovering her daughter’s body. Her hands covered her head, shoes missing, and work apron still on. The shopping and money she carried were gone.

The family now demands swift action from authorities to apprehend the killers and ensure justice is served.
