FIFA is facing growing criticism after referee Omar Artan was reportedly denied entry into the World Cup host country, a decision that has sparked outrage across the football community. The controversy has drawn strong reactions from several well-known figures, including former referee Christina Unkel, who said the situation caused a ripple of dissent among tournament officials.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Unkel said the news was deeply upsetting and spread quickly through the refereeing community. She explained that officials had already been in camp in Miami for more than a week, and the decision appeared to be based on stereotypes rather than anything Artan had personally done. According to her, a World Cup should truly welcome the world.

Former England and Arsenal star Ian Wright also reacted strongly on social media, condemning the denial of entry and highlighting the wider issue of fans, players, officials, and journalists being blocked from taking part in the tournament. The incident has now placed FIFA under intense pressure to respond.
