A Juja man whose wife gave birth to five babies has revealed that he wants a DNA test following the death of all the newborns.
The grieving father said he wanted to establish whether the five babies were biologically his as he struggled to come to terms with the heartbreaking loss.
The babies were delivered at Thika Level 5 Hospital after his wife went into labour on Saturday evening. The father said doctors initially planned to carry out a Caesarean section and he returned home to ask his family to pray for his wife.
When he later returned to the hospital, he found that the five babies had been delivered.
He said two of the babies were crying while three were not. The medical team later determined that the newborns needed specialised care that was not available at the facility.
The babies were transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital in an ambulance with oxygen support.
During the journey, the father held one of the boys against his chest in an effort to keep him close as they travelled to Nairobi.
He said the situation changed after they arrived at KNH. The following morning, doctors informed him that three of the babies had died.
He went to the hospital and saw the children before learning that another baby had also passed away.
The fifth baby, who had been the last survivor, died on Wednesday, September 16, leaving the family devastated.
The father said he had prepared extensively for the arrival of the children and had bought many items in anticipation of raising them.
He said the sudden deaths had left him with many unanswered questions.
The man said he would prefer to undergo a DNA test to confirm paternity.
His decision comes as the family prepares to mourn all five children after their brief lives ended following their transfer to KNH.
The tragedy has attracted widespread sympathy, with several Kenyans calling for support for the grieving family.
