The healthcare sector has experienced another significant shift as President William Ruto’s administration phases out the Social Health Authority (SHA) provider portal in favor of a new platform.

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has clarified the strategic government overhaul regarding public health funding and digital management across the country.

Questions have surfaced among Kenyans regarding the sudden change, but government officials have assured the public that the migration has aimed to streamline healthcare administration.

According to Duale, the transition from the SHA provider portal to the comprehensive Health Information Management System (HMIS) has progressed smoothly across various administrative levels.

The Ministry has confirmed that all 6,427 county public Level 2 to Level 4 health facilities have successfully migrated to the new HMIS network.

To ensure a seamless rollout without operational bottlenecks, the government has granted a one-month extension to public Level 5 and 6 hospitals, faith-based organization (FBO) facilities, and private healthcare centers.

During this grace period, the Digital Health Agency (DHA) has undertaken targeted Rapid Results Initiatives (RRI) with the remaining institutions.

These technical teams have worked directly with healthcare administrators to resolve integration hurdles and complete total system adoption.

Despite public concern regarding potential disruptions, official assurances have emphasized uninterrupted service delivery.

CS Duale has underscored that all patients have continued to access necessary medical services at facilities that have not yet fully completed the digital transition.

The Ministry has reiterated that ongoing technical upgrades have not compromised healthcare access for citizens seeking care across the country.

By shifting away from the original SHA interface toward HMIS, the government has focused on building a integrated digital infrastructure to secure sustainable healthcare funding for Kenya’s future.
