The family of former Tanzanian President John Pombe Magufuli is mourning following the death of his mother, Suzana Magufuli, who passed away after battling a long illness.
According to reports from family members, Suzana Magufuli died on the evening of Monday, May 25, at her home in Chato District, Geita Region, Tanzania.
Her death has brought sadness to many Tanzanians who still remember the late President Magufuli and his contribution to the country during his time in office.
The heartbreaking news was confirmed by the former president’s daughter, Jesca Magufuli, during a phone interview with local digital media outlet Ayo TV.
Jesca later shared an emotional tribute on social media, expressing the pain and sorrow the family was going through following the loss.
“Our grandmother, Suzana Mussa, passed away at around 7pm at her home in Chato after a long illness.
The family will communicate further funeral arrangements. The Lord has given and the Lord has taken away,” Jesca said during the interview.
In another emotional statement shared online, Jesca said the family was deeply saddened by the passing of the woman who raised one of Tanzania’s most influential leaders.
She described her grandmother as a caring and respected woman whose life touched many people beyond her family.
“Siku ya leo, siku ya Juma tatu tarehe 25 May kwa majonzi makubwa na simanzi iliyotanda mioyoni mwetu tunasikitika kuwajulisha ndugu, jamaa na marafiki, na Watanzania wote kwa ujumla kuwa aliyekuwa mama mzazi wa Rais wetu mpendwa Hayati Dkt. John Pombe Magufuli amefariki dunia,” part of the statement read.
