Shirleen Wangari, better known as Shish, has firmly established herself in Kenya’s entertainment industry, gaining popularity through her impressive acting talent.
She first captivated audiences with her role as OJ’s wife in the popular TV show Tahidi High, where she portrayed a cunning character that left a lasting impression on viewers. Her ability to bring such roles to life quickly set her apart and helped her build a loyal fan base.
After her breakout role on Tahidi High, Shish didn’t rest on her laurels. She dedicated herself to pursuing a variety of acting opportunities, auditioning for diverse roles that allowed her to showcase her range.
Taking her passion a step further, she ventured into production, establishing her own company. This move has shown great potential, signaling her ambition to carve out a larger space for herself in the film industry, both in front of and behind the camera.
Recently, Shish took on a significant role in Guatha, a dystopian film produced by Untitled Movies. The film spans three African regions—Ghana, Kenya, and South Africa—and its title, “Guatha,” meaning “nothing” in street slang, hints at a thought-provoking narrative.
This role marks a major step forward in her career as she continues to refine her acting skills and broaden her horizons in international film. In addition to acting, Shish has made strides as a producer. Her co-produced film Wavamizi received international attention in 2021 when it was shortlisted for funding at the Durban Film Shop.
The film focuses on the Portuguese rule over Mombasa and the eventual rise of the local people under the ruler’s son, making it a powerful story of resistance and leadership.
