Media personality Willis Raburu has formally entered politics and is preparing to contest the Kisumu senatorial seat in the 2027 general election.

Kisumu Governor James Orengo confirmed the move on April 22, stating that Raburu had joined the Linda Mwananchi Movement after what he described as a productive engagement. He noted that the former television presenter had aligned himself with the group’s agenda and would be part of its political lineup heading into the next election cycle.

Orengo added that Raburu’s experience in media, along with his ability to connect with younger audiences, would strengthen the movement’s appeal.

Raburu rose to prominence during his time at Citizen TV before later moving to TV47.

His possible entry into elective politics had been widely speculated on in recent months, with campaign-themed content circulating online and drawing early reactions from voters, particularly among younger demographics.

The Linda Mwananchi Movement is linked to several prominent leaders, including Edwin Sifuna, Babu Owino and Godfrey Osotsi.

The group has been advancing a platform focused on addressing youth unemployment and promoting government accountability as it seeks to expand its influence ahead of the 2027 polls. As part of its activities, the movement is set to hold a major rally in Kisumu on April 26, following an earlier event in Nakuru.

Sifuna indicated that the team remains determined to proceed with its plans despite reported pressure and resistance.

However, the planned visit has drawn mixed reactions.

Alego Usonga, Member of Parliament Samuel Atandi cautioned against outside political figures entering the region, while Owino raised concerns about alleged interference by investigative authorities.

Despite these concerns, organisers insist the rally will go on as scheduled.

Raburu’s entry into the race has already sparked debate online, with supporters and critics expressing sharply divided views.

Allies within the movement believe his public profile and communication skills could play a key role in mobilising voters, particularly the youth, who are expected to be influential in determining the outcome of the 2027 election.
