Veteran journalist Jeff Koinange found himself in an unexpected situation on Wednesday when comedian Eric Omondi walked into the Hot 96 studio carrying a steaming plate of matumbo, and the moment that followed has left Kenyans online in stitches.
The visit came after an earlier video of Eric eating at a local kibanda went viral. True to his character, the comedian decided to take things a step further by bringing the popular tripe dish directly to Jeff, determined to get the seasoned broadcaster to try it.
Jeff’s reaction told the whole story before he even opened his mouth. Visibly taken aback, he struggled to even name the dish and made it abundantly clear that tasting it was not something he was prepared to do. His hesitation only made the moment funnier.
Eric, never one to back down, made his intentions known. He told Jeff that before the year ends, he would find a way to get him to eat matumbo, even if it meant hiding it inside another meal.
His colleague Patrick Igunza was far less reluctant and joined Eric in taking bites as Jeff watched from a distance with a look caught somewhere between amusement and alarm.
Jeff did eventually speak, and his reason for refusing was straightforward. He was afraid of getting a running stomach. The studio erupted in laughter.
