President William Ruto has issued a strong warning to individuals engaging in violent attacks against law enforcement officers and police infrastructure. Speaking during a high-level security briefing, the Head of State condemned recent incidents where protesters assaulted officers and stormed police stations.
“Anyone who beats up a police officer and attacks a police station — that is a declaration of war,” Ruto stated firmly.
The President emphasized that while the right to peaceful protest is enshrined in the Constitution, turning demonstrations into violent confrontations against state institutions will not be tolerated. He described such acts as direct threats to national security and sovereignty.
Our officers represent the authority of the Republic. An attack on them is an attack on Kenya,” he added.
This warning follows a wave of nationwide demonstrations, some of which have turned chaotic, resulting in injuries to officers and destruction of public property. Ruto urged law-abiding citizens to separate themselves from criminal elements hiding behind protests.
He reassured the public that the government remains committed to dialogue and reforms but insisted that any effort to undermine law and order would be met with the full force of the law.
“We are a nation built on democracy, not disorder. If you have grievances, express them peacefully. Violence is not the way,” Ruto said.
As tensions continue, the President’s remarks underline his administration’s resolve to defend the integrity of the state and protect officers on duty.
