The education cabinet secretary Ezekiel Machogu was today under tough scrutiny by the members so parliament regarding his work science he had been sworn in as the education cabinet secretary.
Embakasi east member of parliament, Babu Owino brought the education cabinet secretary to the fire as he had his turn to ask his question.in his statement, the member of parliament says that he had only two major concerns that did not add up to him, in the education sector.
His first concern was that he did not understand the reason as to why learners are being sent away yet the education system has been declared free by the government. He pointed out that the Competency Based Curriculum has been the major culprit for sending student away even for money for desks that are to be used for their learning. he pointed out that there are some school, for example one in Embakasi where sixty-five students were sent home due to luck of 1500 Kenyan shillings that was required by the school.
In his second concern, the Embakasi east MP asked the cabinet secretary to answer if it is possible to get rid of the CBC system, which he termed as the Incompetent based curriculum. He adds, that the government has not been serious with ensuring that the learners are getting the best, rather, they are using the learners as control experiments. He exclaimed of how the school system has not deployed enough teachers all over the country to cater for the needs of the students who are being tough.
In his statement, he says, the curriculum expects the teacher to at least know two subject areas of specialization, but at the moment, only one teacher is being found all over the country in most schools.
The education CS answered by saying that the levy’s being taken by these schools are illegal, and if such are found, then immediate action must be taken to prevent exploitation. Also, he defended the CBC saying that a large percentage of people are in support of the CBC from the public survey conducted.
