Orwoba Gloria

Former nominated senator Gloria Orwoba has revealed that she has not received her salary for more than five months following her suspension from the Senate.

Speaking on a local radio on Monday, August 25, 2025, Orwoba described the situation as unfair and illegal, saying her pay was stopped despite no directive from the suspension committee to do so.

According to Orwoba, the Senate Business Committee, which recommended her suspension, did not include salary stoppage among the privileges she was supposed to lose.

She explained that by law, only the committee that suspends a member can decide which benefits are withdrawn. These could include allowances, office access, or participation in certain Senate activities.

“I have not received a salary since I was suspended. The suspension committee did not remove my pay, yet the clerk stopped it. This is wrong and unfair,” Orwoba said.

Orwoba further claimed that when the clerk sought advice from the Senate Business Committee, he was told not to touch her salary. She added that a legal advisory had also confirmed that her salary should continue, but it has still been withheld.

“It is now over five months since my last salary. The law was clear, but my pay was stopped anyway. I feel this is a violation of my rights,” she said.

Her suspension has already been a topic of debate, with supporters and critics sharing strong opinions. While her successor, Consolota Wakhwabubi, has been sworn in, Orwoba insists that her personal rights and entitlements must still be respected.Gloria Orwoba: PHOTO/@gloria_orwoba/X

Orwoba’s situation highlights concerns about how suspension penalties are applied in Parliament.

She argues that members’ basic entitlements, such as salaries, should not be withheld unless specifically decided by the suspending committee.
