DIG Eliud

Confusion has rocked the National Police Service following exclusive revelations that Police Spokesperson Dr. Resila Onyango Muchiri is unaware of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Noor Gabow Lagat’s reported return to office.

In a brief but telling response to media inquiries, Muchiri stated, “I am not aware of any return to office by DIG Lagat. No official communication has been made to that effect.”

The statement comes amid swirling reports that DIG Lagat had quietly resumed his duties at Vigilance House after months of absence, during which his silence sparked speculation about internal wrangles and restructuring within the top echelons of the police service.

Lagat, who oversees the Administration Police Service, has not appeared in any recent public functions, fueling rumours of his possible exit or sidelining.

However, unconfirmed reports suggest he may have resumed administrative duties behind closed doors a development that now appears to have taken even senior communication officers by surprise.

The spokesperson’s declaration has only deepened the mystery, raising questions about transparency and coordination within the police leadership.

Insiders within the security sector told The Press that there has been growing unease in recent weeks over leadership clarity at the AP wing, particularly as the country continues to grapple with rising insecurity in several regions.

Political observers say the apparent disconnect between top officials could be a sign of internal power struggles or sensitive changes yet to be made public.

The Office of the Inspector General has yet to issue a formal statement regarding Lagat’s status.

As the uncertainty lingers, Kenyans are now demanding clarity on the status of one of the country’s most senior security officials — a matter that could have far-reaching implications for public trust in law enforcement leadership.
