Arsenal technical director Edu Gaspar sends message to owner Stan Kroenke ahead of January transfer window
A sense of Déjà vu is lingering around Arsenal ahead of the January transfer window. The Gunners are top of the Premier League table with a real chance of becoming English champions for the first time since 2004.

Mikel Arteta’s men fell short in the late stages of the 2022/23 campaign with Manchester City’s pedigree and experience in title races seeing them pip the north Londoners. 12 months later and England’s top flight is in a similar state.

The festive period is well underway and Arsenal lead the way, again. Saturday’s 2-1 win over Wolves means the Gunners moved two points clear of Liverpool and three above Man City.

A new centre-forward has also been heavily linked with Arteta reportedly keen on adding either Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen. Just like last year, there’s emphasis on the January window being a big opportunity to bring success to the Emirates Stadium.

It’s expected to be a busy opening month of the new year. And technical director Edu Gaspar faces another test of his calibre in the transfer market.

Edu, who has played a crucial part in the upwards trajectory in north London, has now sent a message to Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke. The Spaniard was named best sporting director at the 2023 Golden Boy ceremony on Monday.

“There is no success without support. Without trust,” Edu said upon receiving the award. “I am so happy to be here and to receive this award, I want to share this recognition with the whole club and all the teamwork at Arsenal who help me and have faith in me.

“The perfect young man? He must have the right character, the right personality, that’s the most important thing. The key. Family, friends, how he lives his life, his values. The right mentality is crucial.”

And posting on Instagram alongside an image of himself holding the trophy, Edu thanked the club ownership for their support. “Thank you Golden Boy for Europe’s best Sporting Director 2023”

“Here I would like to thank you, the people, who are part of the award. To the Club owners Stan Kroenke and Josh Kroenke. To the board Lord Harris and our Executive Vice-Chair Tim Lewis. Our CEO Vinai Venkatesham.

“To everyone on our executive committee. Mikel Arteta. To our assisting Sport Director Jason Ayto. All staff and players. Obviously to all my family, my children and especially my wife for her support in every way.”
