Ten passengers have been confirmed dead following a horrific road accident in the Kariandusi region near Gilgil on the Naivasha–Nakuru highway.
The incident, which took place at approximately 9:30 p.m., involved a 10 seater matatu owned by Leakana Sacco.
At the time of the accident, the passengers were traveling from Naivasha to Nakuru and the accident happened just few minutes later.
As per police reports, the matatu collided with a stalled trailer along the heavily trafficked highway, under circumstances that are still being investigated.
The police believed that the stalled trailer was left unmarked at the highway making it hard for drivers to see it especially at night.
The driver of the lorry has not yet been identified since he was not at the scene at the time of the accident.
Authorities have stated that only one individual survived the crash, while the remaining passengers succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
All the deceased bodies have been moved to Naivasha hospital morgue awaiting identification from families and friends.
