The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has revealed that Uasin Gishu and Baringo are currently leading in corruption cases across Kenya. According to the 2024 national survey, Uasin Gishu accounted for 11.12% of all bribes reported, followed by Baringo at 6.94%. Other counties high on the list include Embu (5.54%), Homa Bay (5.32%), and Bomet (5.01%).

Kakamega, Tana River, Kiambu, Nyamira, and Wajir were also mentioned among the top ten counties with high corruption levels, each contributing over 3% to the total national share of bribes.

The report shows that 25.4% of Kenyans were asked to pay a bribe in 2024 to access public services, an increase from 17.7% in 2023. Most of them gave in because the bribe was demanded, or they feared delays. A significant number also felt it was the only way to get help.

Cash remains the primary method of bribery, with 99.5% of reported cases involving money. Most payments were made before services were rendered, while others were done during or after service. A few individuals admitted offering bribes to gain unfair advantage, avoid paying full costs, or secure jobs and transfers.

The EACC aims to use these findings to tighten oversight and ensure that counties take accountability more seriously. The report comes at a time when Kenyans are increasingly concerned about poor service delivery, lack of transparency, and abuse of office across government sectors.

This report sends a clear signal to county leaders and public institutions that action must be taken to restore trust and integrity in public service.
