Hollywood superstar Dwayne Johnson turned the world premiere of Disney’s live-action Moana into a memorable family celebration after arriving on the red carpet with his wife, children, mother and former spouse in a rare public appearance that delighted fans.
The premiere was held at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on Tuesday, July 7, ahead of the film’s worldwide theatrical release on Friday, July 10. Johnson was accompanied by his wife, Lauren Hashian, his mother Ata Johnson, eldest daughter Simone Johnson, daughters Jasmine, 10, and Tiana, 8, as well as his former wife Dany Garcia and her husband Dave Rienzi.
The appearance highlighted the family’s close relationship despite Johnson and Garcia having separated years ago. Fans praised the blended family for supporting one another during one of Disney’s biggest premieres of the year.
Jasmine and Tiana quickly became crowd favourites after stepping onto the red carpet in matching blue dresses decorated with vibrant red hibiscus flowers. They completed their coordinated outfits with matching hair accessories, while Simone opted for an elegant black midi dress paired with black open-toe heels.
The event marked only the second Moana premiere attended by Johnson’s two youngest daughters. Their first appearance came during the Moana 2 premiere in Hawaii in November 2024.
The sisters share a unique connection with the Disney franchise beyond supporting their father. Both Jasmine and Tiana lent their voices to minor characters in Moana 2, making the animated sequel even more special for the family.
Speaking previously about their voice-acting debut, Johnson recalled the emotional moment his daughters heard themselves on the cinema screen for the first time.
He said the girls watched the film with excitement before enthusiastically pointing at the screen when their voices appeared, describing it as one of the most rewarding moments of his career.
Johnson also joked that his daughters had enjoyed a little “nepotism,” adding that seeing them experience such joy was among the best parts of being both a father and an actor.
The actor reprises his beloved role as the demigod Maui in Disney’s live-action adaptation, having first voiced the character in the original animated Moana released in 2016.
Johnson has often shared humorous stories about his daughters’ reactions to the franchise. In one memorable incident, he revealed that Jasmine once playfully told him to stop singing along to Moana songs because he was “ruining” them, despite being the voice behind Maui.
The live-action film introduces Australian actress Catherine Laga’aia in the lead role as Moana. The cast also features John Tui, Frankie Adams, Rena Owen and Jemaine Clement.
Adding even more excitement for Disney fans, Johnson confirmed during a press conference in Rio de Janeiro on July 2 that a third animated Moana film is already in development. Returning writers Jared Bush and Dana Ledoux Miller are expected to continue expanding the popular franchise.
The announcement, combined with the family’s heartwarming appearance on the red carpet, has generated fresh excitement among Disney fans eagerly awaiting the next chapter of the Moana story.
