A police officer from Samburu police station in Kenya is recovering from severe head and hand injuries after being attacked by a group of youths in Murang’a on Friday. The officer was involved in a security guard recruitment exercise at Kennol in Thika when the incident occurred.

According to a contract manager at G4S who reported the attack, unknown armed men ambushed the police officers, throwing stones at their vehicle. “It happened that on reaching Shell Petrol Station, near the tunnel, they were suddenly attacked by about ten men who pelted them with stones,” stated part of the police report. The mob damaged the front windscreen and the right side screen where the targeted officer was seated.

The injured officer was quickly taken to Bliss Medical Center in Thika and later referred to Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital for further treatment. Two other police officers sustained minor injuries to their legs, while three others escaped unhurt. The police are currently investigating the incident to determine the motive behind the attack.

In a similar incident in May, two police officers were injured by an angry mob in the Kemera area of Nyamira County. The mob, gathered at the house of a murder suspect, began destroying property and setting houses on fire. Police officers, led by OCS Sengera Police Station-Manga David Kemboi, attempted to calm the situation. However, the mob started throwing stones at them, forcing the officers to use tear gas and eventually shoot into the air to disperse the crowd.

The recent attacks highlight the growing challenges faced by police officers in maintaining law and order amid rising tensions and unrest in various parts of Kenya. Authorities continue to investigate these incidents to bring the perpetrators to justice and prevent future occurrences.
