A night out at an entertainment joint in Machakos County ended in chaos after a 33-year-old woman sustained burn injuries during an alleged altercation involving a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) captain.
The incident occurred at around 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday at a popular club in Athi River South Sub-County.
Police reports indicate that the lounge manager and a security guard rushed to the scene after hearing loud screams. They found a woman with severe burn injuries on her lower abdomen, reportedly caused by hot water splashed from a thermos flask.
Broken glass pieces were also recovered at the scene as evidence. The victim was taken to Bahati Hospital, where she was admitted for treatment.
Police later arrested a KDF captain attached to the 17 Kenya Rifles in Garissa.
Preliminary investigations suggest the officer and the victim were in a romantic relationship and had been drinking before the confrontation turned violent.
Detectives are now interviewing witnesses and reviewing available evidence to establish the sequence of events that led to the alleged assault.
