There was drama in Trans-Nzoia County after an employer raised alarm over a worker who reportedly showed up to work with a loaded G3 rifle.
According to a statement from the National Police Service, the incident happened in the Maili Saba area. The employer noticed suspicious behaviour from one of their workers and immediately alerted officers at the local police station.
Police, led by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS), rushed to the scene and carried out a detailed search. To their surprise, they found a loaded G3 rifle hidden between two flat doors inside an abandoned chicken coop.
The weapon was loaded with 18 rounds of ammunition.
The employee believed to be the owner of the weapon fled the scene before officers arrived and is now being hunted by police.
It remains unclear what the suspect planned to do with the powerful weapon, which is mostly used by military forces and not allowed in civilian hands.
Police believe the worker may have been hiding the weapon at the workplace for unknown reasons. The area residents were left in shock, with many praising the employer for reporting the matter before things got out of hand.
The National Police Service has confirmed the recovery and stated that investigations are ongoing. Officers are still pursuing the suspect and urged members of the public to report any information that may help with the arrest.
Police have assured the public of their continued commitment to remove illegal firearms from society and keep all communities safe.
