Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has issued a strong warning to Senator Kiprotich Arap Cherargei, accusing him of colluding with The Standard newspaper in what he terms as unnecessary political attacks.
In a late-night post on social media, Sudi stated that Cherargei and The Standard are one and the same. He urged the senator not to drag others into what he described as nonsense, claiming there is clear collusion behind the scenes.
The remarks were triggered by The Standard’s front-page story headlined “Going after Uhuru,” which claimed that former President Uhuru Kenyatta is facing unprecedented political intimidation and harassment under President William Ruto’s administration. The article highlighted a bill sponsored by Senator Cherargei as part of efforts targeting the former president’s privileges.
Sudi’s reaction reflects growing divisions within the ruling United Democratic Alliance coalition. While some members appear supportive of moves to review benefits for retired presidents who remain politically active, others like Sudi view the public discourse as divisive and unhelpful.
The newspaper report detailed concerns over recent actions perceived as disrespectful to the retired president, noting that such treatment sets a bad precedent in the country’s political history. It referenced constitutional and legal matters surrounding former leaders.
As political temperatures rise ahead of future elections, exchanges like this highlight internal tensions within the ruling party. Sudi’s message suggests not all allies are comfortable with the ongoing focus on Uhuru Kenyatta and calls for restraint to avoid unnecessary conflicts.
The senator is yet to respond publicly to Sudi’s accusations. Observers expect more reactions as the debate over retirement benefits and political roles of former leaders continues.
