Natembeya arrest

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has fired a warning shot at the government over any plans to rig the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during a televised interview on Saturday, June 7, 2025, Natembeya warned that the youth — especially Generation Z — may be quiet now, but they are watching closely and preparing to respond at the ballot.

The vocal governor said any attempt to tamper with the electoral process would ignite serious resistance, especially from a generation that has already demonstrated its power during the 2024 protests. He cautioned that silence from Gen Z should not be misread as surrender.

“I believe Gen Z is a brave generation. They may seem quiet now, but that’s strategy. If you interfere with their right to vote in 2027, expect serious consequences,” Natembeya declared.

He emphasized that Kenya cannot afford a flawed election and insisted that transparency must be the cornerstone of the next polls. According to him, any signs of vote rigging would result in protests and instability.

Natembeya also came to the defense of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, whose past remarks warning of post-election chaos were widely criticized. He said Gachagua was misunderstood, insisting his message was a sincere plea for free and fair elections.

“All he said was, don’t interfere with the people’s will. But people chose to focus on the tone instead of the truth,” Natembeya added.

With the 2027 elections just two years away, Natembeya’s remarks have added fuel to the growing national debate on electoral integrity. His statement underscores a clear message: the youth may be silent, but they are ready — and watching.
