A mother’s instinct in Thika has led to a disturbing discovery after her five-year-old son was admitted to Level 5 Hospital with severe, unexplained injuries.
The boy, identified as Baraka, was brought to the facility by his mother, Wangari, after she noticed unusual bruises on his arm and a sudden change in his behavior. Her husband, Mwangi, had initially claimed the child simply fell off a swing at their home in Makongeni.
Medical staff became suspicious during the routine examination when the young boy broke down in tears, pleading with the doctor not to inform his father. Fearing for the child’s safety, the attending doctor immediately admitted Baraka for observation and requested the mother return late at night to review critical evidence.
“The marks on the boy’s body did not match a simple fall from a playground,” stated a lead nurse at the facility. “When children show this level of fear around their primary caregivers, immediate medical and legal intervention is required.”
Local police have opened an investigation into the matter, and the family is currently receiving support from local child welfare officers.
