Award-winning gospel entertainer Frederick Karumba, popularly known as DJ Krowbar, paid an emotional tribute to his late wife, Joyce Wanjiru Karumba, as he marked what would have been their 17th wedding anniversary on Thursday, September 3, 2026.
Sharing photos from their final anniversary date together in September 2025, Krowbar reflected on the simple yet meaningful afternoon they spent following her discharge from the hospital after a kidney transplant. Because her immune system was compromised, the couple avoided public spaces, choosing instead to pick up her favorite sandwich from Java and drive out to the peaceful tea farms to celebrate privately.
“These images were taken last year on a day like today. My wife had just been discharged from her transplant procedure a few weeks before, and you can notice she is a bit swollen in her face… This was the last date we ever had, and it was the best date that year. We bought her favourite sandwich from Java, and we went to chill at the tea farms and thanked God for the many years and the years ahead.” — DJ Krowbar
Reflecting on Grief and Shared Memories
The deejay expressed deep gratitude for having been fully present during that final celebration, acknowledging how precious those last shared moments became after Joyce passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026, following a protracted medical journey.
Looking back at their decades-long union, Krowbar admitted the pain of navigating life without his partner, writing that he remains deeply grateful God allowed him to savor every minute of their journey together while confessing how intensely he continues to miss her.
