TikToker Selfie Man Claims Eric Omondi’s Activism Is Sponsored: “When Paid, He Disappears”

TikToker Selfie Man has sparked controversy after alleging that comedian Eric Omondi’s activism is funded by powerful individuals.

Speaking in a recent interview, Selfie Man claimed Omondi is paid to criticise the government and later disappears from the spotlight once he receives payment. He accused the comedian of lacking consistency, saying his activism is not genuine.

“He is sponsored by the elite to fight the government. When he is paid, he disappears. If he had stayed consistent, he would have become the leader of Gen Zs. But he is wishy-washy,” Selfie Man said.

Efforts by TUKO.co.ke to reach Omondi for comment were unsuccessful by the time of publication.

The remarks attracted strong reactions online. Many Kenyans defended Omondi, insisting his activism is genuine and impactful. Others, however, felt there might be some truth in the claims.

One fan commented, “That’s a fight he won’t win,” while another said, “You can’t fight Eric or Khaligraph. They already won Kenyans’ hearts.”

Some users accused Selfie Man of seeking attention or being used to discredit Omondi. “You can also be bought by the government to compete with him,” one person wrote.

The debate has reignited discussions about authenticity among public figures and whether activism in Kenya is driven by passion or profit.
