Deputy Inspector General of Police in-charge of the Kenya Police Service wing, Eliud Lagat, is not out of the woods yet amid petition to oust him from office.
Lagat took a one-month leave in June 2025 at the height of the murder saga of blogger and social media influencer Albert Omondi Ojwang in a police cell.
At the time, Lagat was adversely mentioned in the murder mystery as he had filed a complaint against the 31-year old over alleged defamation of character.
But as fate would have it, Omondi died while in police cell at Nairobi Central Police Station, implicating senior police officers, including Lagat and OCS Samson Talaam.
Lagat would later find himself under intense pressure to resign with several petitions filed for his ouster from office.
And now, almost one month since returning to office, Lagat is still not out of the hole. He has now been forced defend himself in a sworn affidavit with several human rights activists now baying for his blood.
In his defence, the former GSU commandant maintains that only the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions can approve charges against him, not the court as petitioners prefer.
According to the DIG- KPS, he was not at the scene of Ojwang murder and that he has nothing to do with his death.
As he continues to fight to save his job, it remains to be seen if Lagat survives the onslaught against him.
