Raila Odinga died in India on October 15, where he went for treatment after a blood clot in his head. His 2022 Campaign Press Secretary, Dennis Onsarigo, described a period when he feared Raila would die in 2020.

He disclosed that he had relapsed after contracting COVID-19 and listed what was happening. Raila died in India on October 15, where he had gone for treatment.

He fainted on his morning walk and was transported to the local hospital. Dr. Fons, the medic who treated him, stated that they did everything they could to keep him stable, but he did not survive.

Weeks later, his brother, Oburu Odinga, reported that Raila had a blood clot and required immediate medical attention.

During an interview with the Iko Nini podcast, Onsarigo revealed that Raila contracted COVID-19 in 2020. “In my heart of hearts, I believed we would lose Mzee in 2020 at Covid because I saw him at his worst.

He was terribly ill. What the public didn’t realize was that they saw him shortly after he was released from the hospital.

He relapsed after leaving the hospital, and his condition worsened. He was on oxygen tanks and ate through the pipes. It was a very trying period.

He’d changed into something different. “That’s when I feared he’d leave us,” he added. According to Onsarigo, Raila used to convince him that they would overcome everything.

“COVID had eaten his lungs; it was bad, but he made it,” he stated. He also mentioned how many were turned away from meeting him and praised Uhuru Kenyatta and President William Ruto, for going out of their way to care for him.
