Dennis Itumbi, a close ally of President William Ruto and recently appointed Head of Creative Economy and Special Projects in the Office of the President, has taken to social media to defend Ruto against allegations regarding his Higher Education Loan repayment.
In a statement posted on Wednesday night, Itumbi shared evidence from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) showing that President Ruto fulfilled his loan obligations.
The statement confirms that Ruto began repaying his HELB loan in 2001, while serving as a Member of Parliament for Eldoret North, with the final payment made in August 2003.
The loan, originally KSh 69,000, was fully repaid by the time Ruto completed his term.
Itumbi emphasized the importance of adhering to factual information and urged for a focus on accurate reporting.
Ruto had previously shared his personal experience, detailing that he used a KSh 55,000 HELB loan to finance his university education, repaying it with his first salary as an MP, including a 2% interest, bringing the total to KSh 69,000.
